iPhone users are divided over Apple’s new operating system, with some warning tech fans to think twice before upgrading.
Months of anticipation finally came to an end on Monday (September 16) when Apple made its iOS 18 available to download ahead of Friday’s iPhone 16 launch.
From this week, iPhone handlers can begin customizing their lock and home screens, enable RCS Messaging and lock certain apps away from prying eyes after updating their smartphone.

And while tech enthusiasts have been going gaga for the updated Calculator app, it appears not all of the new-and-improved features are to everyone’s liking.
Taking to social media to have their say, one X user commented about the new Photos app.
“iOS 18’s photo app change makes me overall want to throw up,” they scathingly claimed.

“Getting rid of the scrubbing in full screen videos, not previewing photos and videos in full screen off the bat, ugly one page for everything meaning you have to scroll relentlessly…it’s just BAD.”
“iOS 18 Photos app is really bad, I was hoping people were just wrong but no, it’s unusable and has barely any memory allocated (but that could just be a bug),” echoed a second
Someone else reported: “I updated my Wife’s iPhone to iOS 18. Two minutes into using the Photos app, she made me restore her phone to iOS 17.”
However, it appears not everyone agrees with the negative sentiments.

One social media user claimed that they found the new-and-improved app to be ‘thoughtfully and lovingly crafted.
Another agreed: “Unpopular opinion: I actually really like new Photos app in iOS18, in particular information architecture, how easy it is to access particular albums and the fact it’s customizable. It fixed literally all the issues I had with previous one.”
According to Apple, the overhaul Photos is the ‘biggest-ever update’ to the App and allegedly makes it ‘easier to find and relive special moments’.

Not only can users personalize their experience with a customizable layout but they can keep their library organized through new photograph collections such as ‘Trips’ and ‘People & Pets’.
Speaking about the iOS 18 update ahead of it’s launch, Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering said: “We are thrilled to introduce iOS 18.
“It is a huge release with incredible features, including new levels of customisation and capability, a redesigned Photos app, and powerful ways to stay connected with Messages.
"There are so many benefits for everyone,” he continued. “This release also marks the beginning of a tremendously exciting new era of personal intelligence with Apple Intelligence delivering intuitive, powerful, and instantly useful experiences that will transform the iPhone experience, all with privacy at the core.
