Apple is gearing up for a big launch event next week where they’re expected to reveal its newest smartphone models, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro.

They are rumoured to be faster, and more efficient, with a couple of extra free features.

We won't know much more until the full showcase on 9 September but what we do know is that the release date of iOS 18 will be confirmed.

Announced back in June at WWDC 2024, the new software is set to roll out on millions of iPhones, including some older models. Fans can expect a fresh new look with a plethora of features.

Come the new update, users will be able to customise their home screen layout and app colours and even hide certain apps behind extra security.

There's also a redesigned Control Center where users can create groups and customise the features they use the most. So, quick access can be given to most used apps like media playback and home controls.

They can also add controls from supported third-party apps into Control Center so one place will be the hub of unlocking your car or accessing social media.

The Photos app is getting a makeover too. Users will find it easier to find images and access their favourite photos.

Messaging will get some upgrades, like more reactions and the ability to schedule messages to be sent at certain times of the day.

Finally, a new password app will be launched offering better security for all passcodes.

'We are thrilled to introduce iOS 18. It is a huge release with incredible features, including new levels of customisation and capability, a redesigned Photos app, and powerful ways to stay connected with Messages,' said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering.

"There are so many benefits for everyone."

He added: "This release also marks the beginning of a tremendously exciting new era of personal intelligence with Apple Intelligence delivering intuitive, powerful, and instantly useful experiences that will transform the iPhone experience, all with privacy at the core. We can’t wait for users to experience it."
