Apple recently dropped iOS 7 in response to many security issues and introduced a new Stolen Device Protection feature to crack down on phone theft.
Now, the upcoming iOS 18 update promises even more exciting developments.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the iOS 18 is set to be 'ambitious and compelling' with major new features and design changes planned.

Gurman reported: 'I'm told that the new operating system is seen within the company as one of the biggest iOS updates — if not the biggest — in the company's history.'
In a recent TikTok video, an Apple device owner explains that users can likely anticipate another redesign of the user interface.
With iOS 7 being over a decade old, the TikToker calls the current app icons 'beyond stale.'

Additionally, the Apple owner predicts that with the upcoming release of Apple's Vision Pro, iOS 18 may bring more incorporation from that side of things.
In particular, there could be more blur effects introduced in the design, such as the Maps App.
Last year, Gurman wrote: 'Apple is banking on [iOS 18] to sell people on the new [iPhone] models.'
However, the opinions of Apple fans vary.

One comment wrote: 'I’ve been needing a redesign.'
Another TikTok user replied: 'Kinda reminds me of the stock android look.'
Whilst other viewers aren't so optimistic, with one comment reading: 'if my app icons turn into circles i‘m gonna riot'.

And another pointing out: 'Nope iOS 7 design is good enough.'
The tech giant is also expected to bring in more AI implementation in the new software update, with the biggest confirmed update being the new built-in AI Siri Assistant.
Apple is looking to upgrade Siri with generative AI and large language models. This might be what Apple users are hoping for in that the TikToker expressed that Siri has been stagnant for a while now.
'I think if there's one thing that could save Siri, it's probably AI,' the TikToker added.

Gurman reported that Apple's infusion of AI would 'improve how both Siri and the Messages app can field questions and auto-complete sentences.'
Furthermore, Apple CEO Tim Cook stated last year that there's still a 'number of issues that need to be sorted' regarding AI, and that the tech company will be adding AI to its products in the future, but only on a 'very thoughtful basis.'
The beta release of Apple's iOS 18 is expected in June 2024.
