The nine year wait for Apple Watch users is finally over after the tech firm announced new upgrades to the device that fans have been wanting for ages.
While news around Apple’s recent announcements since their Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC24) has mostly focused on iOS 18 and the changes introduced for iPhones, there are also some exciting new features being added to Apple Watches.
One particular addition is something users have been begging for since day one.

WatchOS 11 will introduce customizable Activity Rings as well as implementing a ‘pause’ option and that is music to everyone’s ears.
Reacting to the news on X (formerly Twitter), many people can’t wait, with one user posting: “The ability to pause your activity rings is a minor feature update for most, but for those of us who obsess about such things to an unhealthy degree, it’s the best Apple Watch update in years.”
A second happy customer wrote: “I think my favorite apple update is being able to pause the Apple Watch rings. As someone who is still struggles with BD and can sometimes fall back in ED patterns, I feels like sometimes my watch can be a bit triggering and make me feel guilty about resting.”

A third person added: “Also you can pause your apple watch rings aw yay accessibility! Also, there’s now a Vitals app! Wild.”
The new Vitals app will use built-in sensors to produce a more holistic picture of your body’s overall health.

This means that your heart rate, wrist temperature and respiratory rate will be closely monitored alongside your blood oxygen levels and sleep duration.
So, if something strange is going on, the Vitals app will ping you to let you know your metrics have changed.
More fans of the watchOS 11 update took to X, with one writing: “Pause your rings on Apple Watch? Hallelujah!”

Another added: “After 10 years we can FINALLY pause the activity rings on the Apple Watch.”
For the first time since the Apple Watch first launched, you will be able to pause your Activity Rings on rest days or if you’re suffering from an injury.
It’s not known exactly when watchOS 11 will drop yet but wearers can expect the update to begin its roll out in the fall.
