With the iPhone 16 series release just around the corner and the building hype of iOS 18, fans are excited about the wealth of features to receive on their devices - whilst saying goodbye to other models.
The exciting part is the update won't be exclusive to the latest iPhones. Apple announced that the new iOS 18 software would also be compatible with some older models as well, including the iPhone 13, iPhone 12, iPhone 11 - and even more surprisingly, the iPhone XS.
The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are the twelfth-generation of iPhones, succeeding the iPhone X.

They were both discontinued on September 10, 2019, following the announcement of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Apple fans have expressed both surprise and excitement on X (formerly Twitter).
'the fact the iPhone XS will get iOS 18,' one X user wrote — 'nearly a 6 year old phone.'
Many users are praising the iPhone XS for being 'an Oldy but Goldy!!' and 'still working flawlessly' to this day.
'Phones haven't changed much since,' another user chimed in.

Along with newer models, the iPhone XS will have all the latest software features that the iPhone 15 will have, like a makeover of the Photos app for easier photo organisation and upgrades in messaging such as more reactions and scheduled messages.
However, there is one drawback.
Among all the features, only the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 series will be compatible with Apple's new AI feature, Apple Intelligence.

iPhone 15 holders will experience a 'more capable, integrated, personal Siri,' according to the tech giant.
This also includes enhanced privacy features designed to keep data secure through on-device processing.
Nonetheless, the fact that older models are supporting newer software reflects the quality of Apple products over the years.
'Things like this from Apple give you a sense of security that you’re never accidentally buying crap products!' another X user added.

On the other hand, some hardcore Apple fans are unhappy that the iPhone XS is getting the upgrade but the iPhone X isn't.
'The XS gets iOS 18 but the X doesn’t?' one questioned whilst another remarked: "I’m still using the last and truly 'revolutionary' iPhone, iPhone X! Replaced battery in 2022! Sadly can’t get iOS 18."
